Siam, the “Società d’Incoraggiamento d’Arti e Mestieri” (Company Encouraging Arts and Crafts) is the driving force of the Academy. Its name is reminiscent of times past, but its spirit has always been extremely modern, ever since Heinrich Mylius, in 1838, together with illustrious personages – Carlo Cattaneo, Antonio Allievi, Giulio Curioni and others – founded a company dedicated to fostering the technical and productive development of industry in Lombardy, and particularly in Milan. The Società d’Incoraggiamento d’Arti e Mestieri is a non-profit training body with a very special role: to generate up-to-date training of excellence.
